potty training: day 1...

look who came to our house?!?!
the potty fairy!!! :)

that's right. we've been talking about her coming for a few days, and how she was going to take the baby diapers and leave canon some big boy underwear! everytime i'd tell him this, he'd tell me no. well, it finally happened this morning...
...and by the looks of this smile, once he actually put them on, he loved them!
after talking up how big he was, and that he needed to keep his cool underwear dry, i relinquished my control freakness and decided to embrace the experience! we are doing the 3-day method where you go cold turkey on diapers since they could confuse him going back and forth. they also advise not to ask him "do you need to go the bathroom?", but instead say, "make sure you tell mommy when you need to go to the bathroom." seriously, i said this like 563 times today. i know i drove him crazy since i drove my own self crazy! i said this like every 30 minutes. the hope is that they figure out when they have the urge, they go to the bathroom. after a couple of hours, we decided since he really doesn't tell us anything, we'd tell him to say, "run to the bathroom if you need to go to the potty." first off, he colored his cool potty chart. he loves putting a sticker on it afterwards. we told him once he's dry for 7 nights in a row, he'd get a woody doll. of course, he doesn't understand how big that is right now!
we made some lemonade to give us lots of potty practice...
he fixed things while we waited...
wrestled his brother...
made some soup...
and took care of june. he has cracked me up today caring for this silly little figurine. he has put her to bed a million times. wrapped her up. sang to her. kissed her. i think the boy needs a baby doll for christmas! love his sweet heart :)
it was exhausting being his shadow today. i have no idea where all his energy comes from. i did get a little break to eat dinner with some fun girls tonight while the daddies kept the kids! our stats from today are 14 pees, 3 poops, 3 accidents, 1 dry nap and fingers crossed for a dry night!! proud of my boy. i'm teaching him something he will use everyday for the next 70 years until he loses bladder control again...how empowering :)
