family christmas...

friday morning we had a little, family christmas and it was so fun! i grew up doing santa only on christmas morning. my parents hauled our gifts to arkansas every year along with the extended family's presents. in lane's family, they did their santa gifts before they left town. he said he never questioned why santa came 3 times! this year, lane really wanted to do at least part of the boys christmas with just us. i was resistant at first because that's not how santa works!! by the end of the day, i was on board. i was excited to get to witness those priceless smiles more than once :)

on thursday night, we started hyping the boys up for what was to come. they were excited! after dinner, we made some cookies for santa and put them on santa's special plate! of course, the boys were anxious to  taste them, too, while watching "charlie brown's christmas"! we wrote santa a note, read a christmas book, did our advent calendar, prayed, sang "away in a manger" (their very favorite song right now) and tucked the boys into bed.

the next morning, they were very anxious to see what santa had brought! this is probably the very first morning ever they didn't ask for breakfast right away. i LOVE watching their faces and excitement as they unwrap something. ledger tears into the gift while canon tears one little piece away and throws it into the trash pile, only to repeat. a testament to their personalities! this christmas was all about dress-up. some sweet friends handed down to us an awesome dress-up trunk. i mean it was perfect! and it was filled with costumes and LOTS of superhero masks. we added a few outfits to the bunch and they have been content for going on 24 hours now! santa brought them each a game. they both love games, but canon, seriously, asks several times a day to play a game...and our games are old news! their stockings were filled with much needed feeding/eating/drinking gear.

the boys had been anxiously waiting for a week to give lane his gift. they gave him this vintage pearl keychain and some hot tamales! they gave me a big 'ol bag of starbucks decaf christmas blend coffee. i'm all set for when brother makes his appearance :)

by 10:30, the boys were hungry. their most favorite breakfast is pancakes so we made santa pancakes! they had fun assembling them and making "christmas milk".

next, it was time to play our new games! craniums games are brilliant. canon got the playground game and ledger got hullabaloo. they love them. in these pictures, they were making letters with their bodies...a "b" and "t"!

after such a sweet morning and good naps, we went to watch lane in the christmas program at church. he played the dad in the drama part. it was fun. the plan was to go look at christmas lights afterward, but that quickly changed when we went to pick ledger up from the nursery and canon honked in the hallway. thankfully, 12 hours later, it seems he just got choked from coughing and it wasn't the return of the stomach bug. we came home and both boys went to bed. lane and i were exhausted and were asleep by 10:45. at 6:45 this morning, canon was hollering to go pee. it was still dark outside so were able to trick him into going back to sleep in my bed since it was "still nighttime"! the whole house slept until 8:45. it was wonderful! now we have a low-key day ahead of us. hoping this baby makes an appearance soon :)
