our {long} weekend...

while lane was doing this for a few days last week...

the boys and i were enjoying a sweet time with my mimi. she was such a help to me and the boys took to her so quickly! they played lots of soccer, read tons of books and ate endless amounts of treats that she had brought for them. she knows the way to their hearts!! she made me cups of coffee, held a fussing baby, cooked dinners, emptied my dishwasher, babysat my boys {several times}, and gave me 2 hours of shopping completely by myself. she knows the way to  my heart!!

right when she got here on wednesday afternoon, knox and i rushed out of the door to get to a doctor's appointment for his growing herniated bellybutton. it's so large now that it surely can't grow anymore with as tight as the skin is. it gives me the heeby-jeebys {sp?} when i see/touch it! our wonderful pediatricians gave us referral to a pediatric surgeon that i will meet with this week. it more than exceeds the 1/2" finger rule. they were very impressed with his chunky self. he weighed in at 12lbs 3 oz...at 7  weeks!

of course, mimi fell in LOVE instantly with her newest great-grandson! they got plenty of time to sit and cuddle. he has found his voice and easily smiles when you start talking to him. this sweet encounter went on for a good 5 minutes before he decided to spit-up all over her jammies and pillow case! she didn't mind...too much :)

makes my heart smile when i see what loving, attentive big brothers knox has.

on thursday, canon had school and mimi went grocery shopping then went with my dad to an event that was here in town that rick santorum was speaking at. me and the little boys had a low-key morning. canon was sent home with a note about his upcoming valentine's party. the teacher had asked that the kids attempt to spell their own name on the valentines sent. after learning to spell his name last week, we pulled out the good 'ol magnadoodle to practice his writing skills. he caught on pretty quick. he was so proud when we went on and on about how good he did! look at that smile. he did write his name on his valentines, but it's not quite this clear since he picked out the world's tiniest valentines! that evening, aunt lala flew in and chloe came over along with my dad for a big dinner. it was fun having a slumber party with my sisters and mimi. of course, the boys LOVED it!!

friday morning, my mom and lauren flew out super early to texas for lauren's birthday weekend. i got lucky when mimi insisted i go running around town ALL BY MYSELF! i spent 2 glorious hours at best buy, bed bath and beyond and target. the majority of my time was spent just roaming target with a starbucks drink...ahhhh!

friday evening, my dad and mimi went out for dinner while the boys and i hung out at home. after dinner and baths, i decided to dress them up for a little photo shoot. why not! they were funny and kept asking, "where we going?" i don't even know what i was saying to make them crack up this much. it was so fun. we were finishing up as mimi was getting home so they wanted a pic while the boys were dressed up.

saturday morning, i went to a celebration shower for some sweet friends who lost their baby 2 days after knox was born at 35 weeks. they have been absolutely amazing through this tough time. of course, they are grieving and sad, but have had such an amazing faith and dealt with it so healthily. i love their sweet family so much and can't wait to meet their sweet elliot one day! everyone was asked to bring unwrapped baby items to the shower to be donated to a pregnancy resource center. it was such a sweet time with our church family.

after leaving i ran home to get the boys ready to go get their daddy from the airport. they had been looking forward to this since lane left! once we had daddy back home, he took over his duties right away. mimi, chloe and i headed to the mall for some shopping...along with everyone else. it felt way more crowded than at christmastime. i guess valentine's day and the extreme cold outside? as we were walking in, chloe was horrified at the fact that i was wearing socks with my flats! at one point, she stopped me and said with intensity, "kel, that lady was looking at your feet!" i totally embarrassed my jr. high sister. i didn't care...my feet were warm! i used up the remainder of my birthday money while there. maybe i'll do a birthday gift post soon...

sunday morning brought goodbyes as mimi left us. it was such a good visit that we were sad to see her go! the boys woke up today and asked about her. i'm so glad they warmed up to her like they did since we don't get to see her near often enough. thank you, mimi, for all you did for us! we enjoyed every moment with you and look forward to florida this summer :) we love you!

here are 3 of my 4 valentines looking spiffy before church. i can't help matching them and coordinating holiday colors! one day they won't let me :( after church, knox and i braved the cold and crowds to get groceries and snow gear. i guess valentines, the weekend and an impending snow storm brought every one to walmart! we survived though and scored snow boots and ski mittens on clearance!

sunday evening, lane and i had our valentine's date. this date is the most anticipated meal of the year. we go to this yummy, fancy steakhouse that is just so heavenly and a once-a-year treat for us! the boys were looking forward to us leaving so they could have miss michelle come play. we even left knox with her! it was wonderful to sit there for 2 hours and not have to worry about anyone, but us! only 364 more days until my mouth tastes the most wonderful, tender steak and scrumptious chocolate lava cake!

we came home to sweet valentines the boys had made for us! they've looked at them a million times today.

Okay...2 questions:
1. At what restaurant do you get this amazing steak and lava cake?
2. Did Michelle help your boys make those valentines? Cause if she did, wow, her handwriting has improved! :)

Enjoyed reading this post!
