our heart day...

we had a sweet valentine's day around here. it pretty much was just a normal day, but everything we did, i tried to make a little extra special for the boys! lane left the house at 5:45 that morning for a day trip to joplin so when knox woke me up at 6:00, i just got up for the day to get things ready. i LOVE decorating for special occasions and i LOVE, LOVE target's fun holiday things. last week, i had asked the boys what their favorite foods were so i could be sure to include it in our day of love! ledger said pancakes so we had red and pink (both were pretty much pink!) heart-shaped pancakes, pink scrambled eggs, red grapes, and pink milk. they thought this was pretty neat and cleaned their plates!

over breakfast, we talked about how valentine's was a day of love and what love was. we then talked about some ways we could show love to each other and our school friends. we talked about how the bible says "god is love" and "love one another". they were so attentive and loved talking about "valemtines".

after we got canon to school, ledger and i spent the morning in the kitchen making cupcakes and panera's mac n' cheese (canon's favorite food and mommy's favorite recipe!). he LOVES helping in the kitchen. he pretty much always helps with crockpot dinners.

knox didn't do anything too different from his normal day-to-day, except look extra cute! this shirt was ledger's. here's a comparison...knox on the left and ledger on the right. they don't look as much alike as i thought! i can't believe how round knox's face is.

canon had his school party that afternoon so we went up for it. his teachers are always sweet to include ledger in the festivities. can we say that ledger is in an awkward smile phase or what? :)

once home, canon decided he needed to shave his lip. oh, sweet boy. it would not stop bleeding. unfortunately, canon wouldn't take a nap since it was still hurting.

canon waited patiently for ledger to wake up so we could decorate cupcakes and open their little gifts. finally, it was time! there were sprinkles everywhere. they emptied both containers of sprinkles as well as the ones that came with the frosting. good thing, we all LOVE lots of sprinkles on our cupcakes!

i love getting them cheap, little surprises for special occasions. it's amazing how excited they get over $1 bin items (have i mentioned how much i love target? :)). they got a batman sticker book, some heart skittles and mini cookies. this pic cracks me up...i told them to close their eyes (since i was out of tissue paper!) and ledger was not getting the concept!

they also got a joint gift...the movie "wall-e". we are pixar snobs and we hadn't seen that one. they are both so into robots and rocketships right now. this movie has both! now having watched it 2x, it is one of my favorites!

canon gave his approval on the mac n' cheese at dinnertime!

this past weekend, lane's parents asked if they could come watch the boys so we could go out on valentine's. we took them up on their sweet offer! how often do we get 2 dates in one week? (the answer is never!) we went downtown and ate mexican food. we literally walked right in and got a table. apparently, the valentine's crowd didn't venture downtown! we got a couple of lava cakes from chili's to go and headed home. i love being out with my sweet hubby!

of course, my kids were so excited to play with oomah and pops! they were bouncing off the walls. they opened their valentines from them and had neat little trinkets and treats. they made these cute valentines while we were out. oomah knows to come prepared with activities. canon has to be doing something at all time...so he thinks. his famous line is, "i wanna do something." if he doesn't like what you suggest, he replies, "i wanna do nother something." he's a mess!

loved making memories with my sweet family!

Is it weird for me to say that every time I read your blog, I find myself wishing we lived in OK so we could be real-life friends? I think our boys would have so much fun together. I am secretly (or not so secretly) hoping that the Lord brings us back home in a couple of years, and maybe we'll be paying you a visit. :) With your permission, of course...
Glad you and your handsome dudes had a happy Heart Day!!
